"Meet the Blacks" stars Mike Epps, Gary Owen, Zulay Henao, George Lopez, and Mike Tyson. Released on April 1, 2016, the film is about a family who moves to Beverly Hills on the same day as the annual Purge. The film is directed by Deon Taylor, who also directed films such as Dead Tone, Chain Letter, and Supremacy, and it is a parody of the 2013 horror film, The Purge. After experiencing the ridiculous, yet hilarious, Fifty Shades of Black back in January, we are now introduced to another spoof film that doesn't involve Marlon Wayans nor his sex toys. It somehow amazes me that they kept making these despite the genre being dead-weight, but I guess Hollywood doesn't really pay attention to the negativity and just wants to make people laugh. This is going to be a short review for this film because I'm trying to understand what the flying hell did I just watched! I was expecting it to be funny, but all I got was something totally bizarre. Pros: Plenty of OK performances, although a bit too over-the-top at times. Cons: The story was weak and predictable. The humor was a bit forced and sometimes offensive. I laughed at a couple of moments, but that's about it. The film dragged at some parts. Inconsistent editing. Some unlikable characters. The silliness doesn't mash well with its horror elements. Final thoughts: I really can't say something mean about "Meet the Blacks" because if I do, then I would wind up being a killjoy and a complete jerk to those who liked it. This is quite possibly one of the weirdest theatrical experiences I have ever witnessed. It's interesting, but the execution is poorly done thanks to its forced humor, uncaring characters, and over-the-top performances. In fact, this film should've been called "Crazy Black People: Purge Night" because that's what they do in this film, they do crazy stuff and say offensive jokes just to make people laugh. If you like that kind of stuff, you might like this film. As for me, I think it would settle better as a Netflix release or an On Demand release instead of a theatrical release. Seriously, what the hell did I just watch…? F
