"Triple 9" stars Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, and Kate Winslet. Released on February 26, 2016, the film is about a group of criminals who are sent on a mission to perform a nearly impossible heist. The film is directed by John Hillcoat, who also directed films such as The Proposition, The Road, and Lawless. There really wasn't that much I can say about this film, to be honest. All I know is that it looks violent from the trailers, and I figured it might be worth a watch. Another reason why I went to this film is that I heard some good things from the audience while I was working. I was hoping for it to be good too, but it wasn't what I was expecting it to be. Pros: The performances were good. The action was well-handled. Solid direction. Cons: The pacing felt slow at times. The story didn't feel that engaging. Lack of character depth. A bit overlong by 10 minutes. Final thoughts: "Triple 9" offers a talented cast and good direction, but they're not enough to accomplish this type of heist. It's pretty much more on dialogue and less on action. What makes it less satisfying to me is the story. If you liked this film more than I do, then I respect your opinion. If you're a fan of action films that's more dialogue-driven, then you might like this. C-
