"My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, and Elena Kampouris. Released on March 25, 2016, the film continues the misadventures of the Portakalos family. The film is directed by Kirk Jones, who also directed films such as Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee, and What to Expect When You're Expecting. It is a sequel to the 2002 sleeper hit, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. You're probably wondering why I'm reviewing a romance film. Well, my mom and my sister wanted to see it and they wanted me to tag along, even though I have not seen the first film. With that said, I will be reviewing it as its own film without comparing it to the original. Pros: The cast delivered some respectable performances. The characters were likable. Good balance between drama and comedy. It had the right amount of charm. Cons: The story felt like it was two movies in one sequel. Some of the humor can be a bit too silly at times, but they're not as annoying as the other silly comedies. Final thoughts: As a sequel, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" feels like a family reunion to those who love the 14-year-old romantic comedy classic. As its own, the film's story does feel like a sitcom episode and the humor can be a bit too silly, but with its likable characters and the right amount of charm, comedy, and drama, it's a heartwarming treat. I never would have thought I would enjoy a film such as this, let alone a sequel to a romantic comedy, but I did. I should really watch the first film when I get the chance. Fans of My Big Fat Greek Wedding or feel-good movies would definitely like this latest outing, even for those who haven't seen the first film. Opa! B-
