"Zoolander 2" stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Penelope Cruz, and Kristen Wiig. Released on February 12, 2016, the film has Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald teaming up with an Interpol agent to search for the one responsible for murdering several pop culture icons. The film is directed by Ben Stiller, who also directed films such as The Cable Guy, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It is a sequel to the 2001 film, Zoolander, also directed by Stiller. It's been a while since I saw the first film, and it's quite surprising that it took them 15 years to release the sequel. This type of strategy does seem a bit problematic, especially when more people started to get more picky with recent comedies from time to time. The first Zoolander film impressed critics and audiences with its fashion satire and its dumb humor, but are they enough to make the sequel as cool as Derek's "Blue Steel" look? Pros: The performances were decent. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson delivered some entertaining chemistry. Most of the humor was hilarious. Cons: The story's a bit predictable. Weak character development and screenplay. Pacing's a bit slow, but never boring. Its dumb humor felt overused during the second and third act. Final thoughts: "Zoolander 2" should impress those who liked the first film in terms of its fashion satire and its ridiculous humor. However, it took a step too far in the process. It's dumb, but it tried so hard to also be funny that it winds up being…well, a dumb and ridiculous sequel to a ridiculously funny film. Like I said, if you like the first film because of its humor, then this one should offer more of the same. D+
